During a wonderful mission in Singapore I could visit the INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR SINGAPORE 2016 33rd ASEAN FURNITURE SHOW.
A group of italian and european architects and journalists, lead by Marilena Puppi of OGS, were hosted by IFFS, with the purpose to promote the fair in Italy and Europe, and to receive a constructive feed back.
Our group was as heterogeneous as it was close-knit, allowing the formation of several bonds, for informational and collaborational purposes, between the participants and definitely brought a solid contribute to the Singapore fair.
I would like to thank Juliana Gan, who guided us within the fair and more; Bert Choong, Director of IFFS; for SFIC (Singapore Furniture Industries Council) Ernie Koh President, Andrew NG Presidential advisor, Mark Yong Vice President Chairman of Design Development, Phua Boon Huat Honorary Treasurer, Karen Chan Head Public Relations and Philip Pang Assistant Manager Marketing Communications.
They made the wise choice of contacting European professionists through OGS in order to get closer to Salone del Mobile di Milano.
When I spoke with them, I learnt that Italy represents a design landmark and that Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone are considered the most important events in this area worldwide. I believe IFFS can become a landmark itself, especially in the Asian marketplace, but also a medium to catch European investors, creating new and productive sinergies.
Many stands exposed very interesting products, which could represent a valid alternative to European production.
Creative Design exists also in Singapore and it could produce very interesting pieces, if opportunely stimulated and guided, which could find their own expositive collocation in Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone as well.
During my visit, I found some exibitors with very interesting products, made by the skills of local art&craft:
