Proudly Malaysian-made, the Malaysia Pavilion’s architectural design incorporates green features in line with the sustainability theme at the Expo. The seed-shaped structure of the pavilion is constructed with “Glulam”, glued laminated timber, a highly innovative structural timber made of local sustainable material.
The use of Glulam, combined with the structurally complex design of the pavilion, is a testament of Malaysia’s capabilities in both innovative design and use of sustainable materials.
The Malaysia Pavilion, reflecting the nation’s environmental sustainability, technological innovation and national artistry, was unveiled today at Expo Milano 2015 by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Muhyiddin bin Mohd. Yassin.
While showcasing the country’s diversity, the Pavilion emphasises Malaysia’s trade and investment opportunities, its capabilities in preserving regional biodiversity and empowering the South East Asian nations with its vision for sustainable growth.
Complementing the Expo’s theme, Malaysia’s own ‘Towards a Sustainable Food Ecosystem’ is manifested as a model for rich cultures, traditions and flavours that meet against the backdrop of cutting edge architecture. Malaysia’s economic fundamentals are strong, underpinned by comfortable levels of external reserves, low external debt, low unemployment, and healthy inflows of foreign direct investments.
Despite the global economic challenges, As nations come together to demonstrate their respective capabilities at the Universal Exhibition, the journey through the Malaysia Pavilion underlines a nation pursuing its socio-economic developmental goals in an innovative, sustainable and environmentally conscious manner.
The Malaysia Pavilion is designed to resemble rainforest seeds. Made up of four seeds, each with its own unique content, the Malaysia Pavilion is a reflection of the nation’s commitment to drive sustainability through responsible utilisation and preservation of natural resources.
