Belgium, and particularly Antwerp, has a long and rich history as one of the most important diamond manufacturing and trading hubs in the world.
At the Belgian Pavilion, the Antwerp diamond heritage is showcased by a selection of jewellery designs nominated for the HRD Awards 2015. The HRD awards, a biannual jewellery design contest for talented jewellery designers organised by HRD Antwerp, is internationally recognised as one of the world's most important jewellery design competitions today. Its goal is to inspire and promote creative contemporary diamond jewellery design and avant-garde ideas.
This year, the HRD awards’ theme is “'A LA CARTE | A Culinary Diamond Journey'” a food inspired theme which corresponds to the overall World Expo theme 'Food'. The finished jewellery designs will be on display at the Belgian Pavilion for the duration of the World Expo in Milan, which will run from May 1st until October 31th, 2015.
In April 2nd, the international Jury of the HRD Awards 2015 already gathered in Antwerp to review the final selection and choose the winning design and three finalists. The results will be announced during a grand award ceremony and jewellery show on October 29th.Once the World Expo in Milan ends, the full HRD Awards collection will be traveling the world with China being its first destination.

A Culinary Diamond Journey
In 2017 Antwerp will be hosting the new Museum for Gold-and Silversmithing, Jewellery and Diamonds.
The museum is located in the heart of the historical centre of Antwerp, next to the impressive city hall, that celebrates its 450th anniversary in 2015.
The museum will highlight the history of goldsmithing, focusing on gems and diamonds. Its collection will highlight the art historical story of goldsmithing, the importance of Antwerp and Flanders as a national and international hub of the production of exquisite jewels and decorative art.
